This past Saturday marked the 8th Annual Guac Off, held at The Urban Hive in Midtown. This was my 5th opportunity to roll my sleeves up and plan, promote and execute the event from start to finish. What is the Guac Off, you ask? It’s a blind guacamole-tasting contest where all guacs are tasted and scored by attendees. As if endless guacamole isn’t enough for a Summertime event, we always try to incorporate additional goodies such as wine, beer, maybe a raffle and always a DJ.
While the Guac Off is a completely donation-based event, each year we try to ensure that all the proceeds go to a deserving organization. When it came to deciding who the charity would be this year, I couldn’t help but think about the Getty Owl Foundation, an organization devoted to helping families fight Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) – and also a recent client of Honey Agency.
To help promote the event and the charity, I was invited to appear live (no pressure) on Good Day Sacramento the morning of the event. Accompanied by 2012’s first place winner, my dad (and two-time contestant), and the president of Getty Owl Foundation, we had a friendly competition and the hosts voted for their favorite. Check out our 5 minutes of fame here: Part 1 & Part 2.
With 10 guacs, 4 awesome raffle prizes and 150 attendees – this year’s Guac Off was a huge success! Check out some of the highlights below. Photography by Honey Agency’s own, Paul Le.
Can you say Guac?
We had a great turnout – and this is only half of it!
DJ Benji played some great tunes!
Ashley became the two-time champion! See her Gold avocado pit around her neck?!
Not only did she get a Gold pit, as first place winner, she also received that great blazer (it’s been around since the founding of Guac Off). We were so glad Getty was able to come out, she had a great time!
From left to right: Ellie placed 3rd, Amanda & her friend placed 10th (LAST!), Sarah placed 2nd, Me/Hostess, and Ashley in 1st!
