The Red Bowie Blood Orange Cocktail

If there’s one alcohol this office never tires of, it’s gin. We keep our bar cart stocked with a variety ranging from floral to piney and are constantly looking for inventive, seasonal recipes.

It was recently brought to our attention that blood oranges are not only in season here in Sacramento, but that we’re home to some of the absolute best blood oranges in the nation. A 100-year old family farm, Twin Peaks Orchards offers sustainably grown vegetables, canned goods, jams, olive oil, honey and – blood oranges. Twin Peaks generously provided a handsome bag of fragrant Moros and we immediately set out to find a recipe that would compliment our, well, gin obsession. We call it: The Red Bowie.

The Red Bowie consists of Elderflower liqueur, ginger ale, lime juice, blood orange and thyme for garnish. Anchoring the libation is Darjeeling Gin, a carefully curated composition of rare and unusual botanicals, resulting in a unique mouth-feel. The sweetness of the drink can be controlled by increasing or decreasing the amount of Elderflower liqueur, making this the an enjoyable drink for all. Cheers!
